Threat Database Adware CoinCycling

CoinCycling

CoinCycling is an intrusive adware application aimed at Mac users. Instead of providing useful features to their customers, the operators of the application are more interested in earning revenues via unwanted advertising campaigns. Indeed, a significant portion of the application's capabilities is dedicated to the delivery of intrusive advertisements to users' Macs.

Apart from severely diminished user experience, the advertisements also could expose users to security risks by redirecting them to shady websites, fake giveaways, adult-oriented platforms, suspicious online betting pages and more. The advertisements also could trigger unwanted downloads for dubious applications and PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs).

Adware applications also are commonly observed to carry data-collection functionality. While present on the system, they may spy on the user's browsing activities by accessing the browsing history, search history, clicked links, etc. The invasive application also may gather numerous device details that could include sensitive banking or payment information. Afterward, the operators of the specific PUP may exploit the acquired information in some different ways, depending on their specific goals. For example, one option involves offering to sell the user's data to third parties that may include cybercriminal groups.
