EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecard
EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards are assessment reports for different malware threats which have been collected and analyzed by our research team. EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards evaluate and rank threats using several metrics including real-world and potential risk factors, trends, frequency, prevalence, and persistence. EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards are updated regularly based on our research data and metrics and are useful for a wide range of computer users, from end users seeking solutions to remove malware from their systems to security experts analyzing threats.
EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards display a variety of useful information, including:
Ranking: The ranking of a particular threat in EnigmaSoft’s Threat Database.
Severity Level: The determined severity level of an object, represented numerically, based on our risk modeling process and research, as explained in our Threat Assessment Criteria.
Infected Computers: The number of confirmed and suspected cases of a particular threat detected on infected computers as reported by SpyHunter.

After analyzing CheckControl, infosec experts have determined that it is another application belonging to the AdLoad family. AdLoad applications are designed to target Mac users and then exploit their presence on the devices to generate proceeds for their operators. The applications can display features from adware, browser hijackers or even both. When it comes to CheckControl in particular, it appears to be acting as adware mostly but its behavior could be influenced by a multitude of factors including the user's IP address, browser type, macOS version and more.
Adware applications are tasked with running annoying ad campaigns on the user's devices. The advertisements could impact the browsing experience significantly and lead to other negative consequences. Users also should be careful when interacting with them or risk being taken to dubious or even unsafe third-party websites. It is not uncommon for adware-related advertisements to lead to hoax sites, phishing pages, fake giveaways, platforms spreading PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Program), etc.
Users should avoid keeping adware or other PUPs on their devices. These intrusive applications could be viewed as security risks. They also could be spying on users' browsing activities. Data such as the entire browsing history, every conducted search, and all clicked links may be collected, packaged, and then exfiltrated to a server controlled by the PUP's operators.
