Bnrs Ransomware

Another potent variant from the STOP/Djvu ransomware family is threatening the valuable data of computer users. Tracked as Bnrs Ransomware, the threat has retained the encryption capabilities associated with variants of this family. It can impact a large range of different file types with affected users losing the ability to open or access any of the encrypted files. Documents, PDFs, databases, archives, and more, will all be left in an unusable state and each locked file will have '.bnrs' appended to its original name. The threat will also drop a text file named '_readme.txt' on the infected machines. Inside this file, victims will find a ransom note with instructions.

In general, the ransom-demanding message left by Bnrs Ransomware follows the established STOP/Djvu pattern. The cybercriminals responsible for the attack demand to be paid a ransom of $980. However, this initial amount can supposedly be reduced by 50% if the impacted users contact the hackers within the first 72 hours. They can do so by sending a message to the two email addresses mentioned in the note - 'support@bestyourmail.ch' and 'supportsys@airmail.cc.' As part of their message, victims are also told that they can attach a single locked file that the threat actors promise to decrypt and return for free.
