Threat Database Mac Malware AdjustableRotator

AdjustableRotator

AdjustableRotator is a dubious program, belonging to the AdLoad adware family. As such, it is likely that its primary function is the delivery of unwanted and annoying advertisements to users' Mac devices. To avoid allowing such intrusive programs onto their computers and devices, users must pay attention when installing any applications from unproven sources. After all, the operators of such PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) often hide them inside software bundles or even completely fake installers/updates.

Once fully deployed on the Mac, AdjustableRotator, like other members of the AdLoad family, could be responsible for the appearance of numerous advertisements. Not only will the advertisements diminish the user experience on the device, but they also may serve as a promotional channel for additional PUPs. The advertisements may try to present the intrusive applications as useful and seemingly legitimate programs. Users also are likely to see advertisements for dubious websites, online tactics, fake giveaways, shady adult-oriented pages and more.

The problem with PUPs is that their capabilities may not stop there. It is quite common for these applications also to have data-tracking functionalities. While installed on the system, they may be continuously gathering browsing-related data. In some cases, the PUP also may harvest device details or try to extract sensitive information from browsers' autofill data. This information typically includes account credentials, banking or payment details, credit/debit card numbers and more.
