Zatp Ransomware

The Zatp Ransomware has been confirmed to be a variant belonging to the infamous STOP/Djvu malware family. The variants created from this malware string carry a strong cryptographic algorithm, which is used to lock the data of their victims. The impacted files will become inaccessible and unusable, while restoration without knowing the correct decryption keys is usually impossible. Victims of the Zatp Ransomware should be warned that their computers may have been infected with additional malware, as well. Operators of the STOP/Djvu threats often drop info-stealers, such as the Vidar Stealer and the RedLine Stealer, alongside their data encryption tools.

Once executed on the breached device, the Zatp Ransomware will target the victim's documents, photos, images, archives, databases and possibly many other file types. All impacted files will have '.zatp' attached to their original names as a new extension. In addition, the threat will create a text file named '_readme.txt.' Inside the file, victims will find a ransom note with instructions from the threat actors.

The text of the ransom-demanding message follows the typical STOP/Djvu pattern. The attackers state that their victims must pay a ransom of $980 if they want to receive a decryptor tool and the decryption keys necessary for the restoration of the affected files. Two email addresses are mentioned as potential ways to contact the cybercriminals - 'support@fishmail.top' and 'datarestorehelp@airmail.cc.' According to the note, victims who establish communication within the first 72 hours will pay 50% of the initial ransom amount.
