Yqal Ransomware

Part of the extremely popular among cybercriminals STOP/Djvu malware family, the Yqal Ransomware is capable of causing significant damage to compromised computers. The threat executes an encryption process with a strong cryptographic algorithm to lock the victim's files and render them unusable. Afterward, the attackers extort the affected users for money in exchange for restoring access to their data.

As part of its threatening activities, the Yqal Ransomware also marks each encrypted file. It does so by appending '.yaql' to the file's original name as a new extension. The ransom note with instructions for the victim is then dropped on the infected device. The message will be placed inside a newly-created text file named '_readme.txt.'

Ransom Note's Overview

The note of the Yqal Ransomware is largely consistent with the messages left by the other STOP/Djvu variants. It mentions that victims will have to pay a ransom of $980 if they want to receive the decryption software tool and key necessary for the restoration of the data.

The attackers offer to drop the demanded amount by half if the affected users contact them within the first 72 hours of the ransomware attack. The note also mentions that the cybercriminals are willing to unlock a single file for free. The only specified requirement is for the file to not contain any important data. Two emails are provided as means of communication - 'manager@mailtemp.ch' and 'helprestoremanager@airmail.cc.'

'ATTENTION!

Don't worry, you can return all your files!
All your files like pictures, databases, documents and other important are encrypted with strongest encryption and unique key.
The only method of recovering files is to purchase decrypt tool and unique key for you.
This software will decrypt all your encrypted files.
