Threat Database Browser Hijackers Your Streaming TV Now

Your Streaming TV Now

Your Streaming TV Now, as its name suggests, is an applications that claims to provide users with a convenient way to access TV streaming websites. Unfortunately, that is not the main focus of the app. What users might be surprised by is the browser hijacker capabilities attached to Your Streaming TV Now. Also, the app might drop an additional PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) called Hide My Searchers.

Once Your Streaming TV Now is installed onto the user's device it will proceed to assume control over the web browsers on the system. The goal of the app is to modify the homepage, new page tab, and the default search engine. All three settings will be set to open the address of a fake search engine - search.hyourstreamingtvnow2.com. While the app is present on the system, it will prevent users from further tampering with these settings in order to ensure the continued generation of artificial traffic towards the promoted address. Being classified as a fake engine, search.hyourstreamingtvnow2.com is incapable of generating any search results on its own. Any search query entered into the engine's main page or the URL bar of the affected browser will instead be redirected to search.yahoo.com.

The biggest concern when it comes to browser hijackers such as Your Streaming TV Now, apart from the sheer annoyance they cause, is the fact that most of them have data-harvesting functions. The user's browsing activity could very well be monitored, stored, and then uploaded to a remote server. The PUP's operators could then attempt to sell the gathered data to third parties. Among the collected information could be the entire search history saved in the browser, all visited websites, clicked URLs as well as certain device details such as the IP address, geolocation, and ISP.
