Threat Database Ransomware Yjqs Ransomware

Yjqs Ransomware

The notorious STOP/Djvu Ransomware family is still being used for the creation of new malware threats. One of the latest to be identified by the infosec community is named the Yjqs Ransomware. Although the threat has little to differentiate it from other STOP/Djvu family members, its capacity to cause damage is still as potent.

Computers infected by Yjqs will suffer data encryption with the threat going after numerous different file types. Victims will find themselves no longer able to access their own documents, pictures, images, audio, video, archives, databases and more. Each locked file will now have '.yjqs' appended to its name as a new file extension. As for the typical ransom note with instructions for the victims, it will be dropped on the breached device as a text file named '_readme.txt.'

Ransom Note's Details

The ransom-demanding message delivered by the Yjqs Ransomware states that the hackers want to be paid exactly $980. After receiving the payment, they will be willing to provide their victims with the software tool and decryption key without which restoration of the locked files is virtually impossible.

The ransom note also mentions that victims can cut the amount of the ransom in half to $490. Apparently, the only requirement is to contact the attackers during the first 72 hours of the Yjqs infection. As part of their message, affected users also are allowed to send a single encrypted file. If the note can be trusted, the hackers promise to decrypt the file and return it for free. However, keep in mind that the chosen file must not contain any important information.
