Wwka Ransomware

Ransomware operators are continuing to churn out more and more variants based on the STOP/Djvu malware family. Despite the variants of the STOP/Djvu Ransomware being nearly identical copies of one another, that doesn't make them any less threatening. The Wwka Ransomware is not an exception. The threat is capable of causing significant damage to any computer system it manages to infect. By running an encryption routine, Wwka will render most of the files stored there inaccessible and unusable. To regain access to their locked information, users will be told to pay a ransom. The threat marks each encrypted file by appending '.wwka' to that file's original name as a new extension. As for its ransom-demanding message, it is dropped on the system in the form of a text file named 'readme.txt.'

According to the instructions in the note, victims of the Wwka Ransomware are expected to pay exactly $980 to the hackers. However, if contact is established during the first 72 hours of the ransomware infection, the cybercriminals promise to cut the price down by 50% to $490. For that purpose, two email addresses are provided - 'manager@mailtemp.ch' and 'helpmanager@airmail.cc.' Victims also are allowed to attach a single file to their message. The file will supposedly be decrypted and returned as a demonstration of the hackers' ability to restore the data.
