Worm:JS/Proslikefan.gen!lnk is a worm, which circulates as a shortcut file (.LNK), that poses as a genuine file, modified by a variation of the Proslikefan family of worms, such as Worm:JS/Proslikefan.gen!E. Worm:JS/Proslikefan.gen!lnk strives to seduce an attacked PC user into opening the infected file. If the victimized PC user opens the malicious file, a malware infection, found as Worm:JS/Proslikefan.gen!lnk, is downloaded and installed on the targeted PC. Worm:JS/Proslikefan.gen!lnk is installed on the vulnerable computer by other variations of the Proslikefan family of worms, such as Worm:JS/Proslikefan.gen!E. Worm:JS/Proslikefan.gen!lnk can modify the affected computer user's system settings and disable anti-virus and security software. Worm:JS/Proslikefan.gen!lnk makes modifications all shortcut files that are located on the desktop so that when the victim opens the shortcut, a copy of Worm:JS/Proslikefan.gen!lnk will be launched, as well as the original application. Victimized computer users may difficultly notice the alteration since the shortcut will still launch its original function. For example, if the shortcut should start Notepad, it will first initiate a copy of Worm:JS/Proslikefan.gen!lnk and then start Notepad.
