You may notice the WordAnchor browser assistant to offer to help users optimize their searches on Google when you explore the 'Advanced' or 'Custom option of a freeware bundle. However, security analysts classify the WordAnchor app as adware because its primary objective is to display ads and earn affiliate revenue for its developers. The WordAnchor adware manifests as a pop-up window loaded with content such as a word definition and ads when you highlight a word on a web page. Additionally, the WordAnchor adware may present you with banners and ad boxes loaded with marketing materials from sponsored advertisers. Security researchers note that the WordAnchor adware may add a task in the Windows Task Manager and install third-party update apps like Yandex Toolbar and Babylon Toolbar automatically. You should note that the apps mentioned before have a bad reputation and can change your default search engine and redirect you to potentially harmful websites. Security researchers warn users that the WordAnchor adware may use DOM storage data and read your download and Internet history to display related sponsored content. Users who are infected with the WordAnchor adware and often visit software distribution platforms could be suggested to download and install riskware like ImproveSpeedPC and BackUpDutyLite that may slow down your computer. Computer users should consider using a reputable anti-spyware application to remove all components of the WordAnchor adware.
