Wnlu Ransomware

Infosec researchers have caught another variant from the notorious STOP/Djvu Ransomware family. The new threat is tracked as the Wnlu Ransomware and its destructive capabilities allow it to lock users out from their own files. The ransomware runs a strong encryption process with an uncrackable cryptographic algorithm. The numerous targeted file types - documents, PDFs, archives, databases, etc., will be rendered unusable completely.

Each locked file will have '.wnlu' appended to its original name as a new extension. The Wnlu Ransomware will drop a ransom note on the breached systems with instructions for its victims. The ransom-demanding message will be delivered via a newly-created text file named '_readme.txt.'

Ransom Note's Details

The demands of Wnlu Ransomware contain the typical details found in other STOP/Djvu variants. The message states that the attackers demand to be paid exactly $980 if they are to help with the restoration of the victim's data. The ransom can be reduced in half, though. The only requirement is for the affected users to establish contact with the attackers within the first 72 hours of the ransomware infection.

Victims can do so via the email addresses mentioned in the note. The primary email is 'manager@mailtemp.ch,' while 'helprestoremanager@airmail.cc' acts as a reserve address. The hackers also state that they are willing to decrypt a single locked file for free.
