WinCoDecPRO

WinCoDecPRO is a rogue application, masquerading as a Windows multimedia coder/decoder. WinCoDecPRO enters the system through Tojan Viruses or manual downloads from dubious websites. Once WinCoDecPRO is activated, fake codec errors will display and the user will be redirected to the WinCoDecPRO website. False alerts and claims will appear claiming that media codecs have been destroyed and that the user is at risk of losing all video and audio files. The user is then asked to update the media codec. WinCoDecPRO uses these tactics to create a state of fright and panic to mislead the user to purchase the application.
