WeKnow

The WeKnow browser extension that you may find in your browser is deemed as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP). The WeKnow browser extension is associated with the Weknow.start.me and the Weknow.ac domains that feature pages very similar to the popular Start Page at https://start.me. However, Weknow.start.me and Weknow.ac are not endorsed by Start.me and might use copyrighted materials with the proper license. Also, Weknow.start.me may look like a search service, but it is a simple redirect-gateway to a customized version of https://coinup.org. PC users have complained about unwanted redirects to pages that are not part of https://start.me and experience unexpected pop-up windows with promoted videos.

Computer security researchers alert that the WeKnow browser extension is styled to look like an application associated with https://start.me, but it is programmed to reroute the Web searches to http://find.coinup.org/search.php?q={searchTerms}&a={deviceID}. The Find.coinup.org landing page is part of the Coinup.org platform that allows players of games like Clash of Clans, FarmVille, and Angry Birds to earn game points in said titles. The game points are earned through conducting simple Web searches, watching video commercials, following promotional links, and sharing marketing materials on social media. You can learn more by navigating to https://coinup.org/view.aspx?s=howto. The WeKnow application may enable third parties to earn game points via Coinup.org and benefit from your Internet activity without your informed consent. PC users who have not installed the WeKnow browser extension and are aware of its true purpose may want to remove it.
