Users that find themselves encountering the Week-tale.xyz website should use caution. The page is not interested in delivering any meaningful content or service. Instead, it is used as a platform for running online schemes. When examined by infosec researchers, the site was observed propagating a popular browser-based tactic that exploits the legitimate push notifications feature.
The goal of the rogue websites running this scheme is to lure users into unknowingly subscribing to their notifications. To mask their true intentions, the untrustworthy pages utilize various fake and misleading scenarios. What messages exactly are shown could depend on the specific IP address and geolocation of each visitor. Still, Week-tale.xyz has been confirmed to often rely on the most widespread scenario - pretending to be doing a CAPTCHA check.
Users are greeted by a prominently displayed message that could be similar to:
'Click 'Allow' to verify that you are not a robot!'
Instead of being granted access to additional content, users will grant important browser permissions to the dubious page. Afterward, Week-tale.xyz will be able to easily deliver numerous, unwanted advertisements and notifications to the user's device. The generated advertisements could appear as pop-ups, banners, system notifications, etc., and interrupt users constantly. More importantly, the displayed advertisements associated with such shady sources are highly likely to promote similarly untrustworthy destinations or software products.
Users risk being shown advertisements for phishing schemes, technical support hoaxes, dubious adult pages, online gambling platforms, etc. In addition, pressing the displayed 'Allow' button could trigger forced redirects. Week-tale.xyz has been confirmed to have such functionality, taking users to a website running a fake giveaway fraud.
