Hoax operators continue to release more and more dubious websites designed to trick users. Webpushpull.com is exactly such a page. It relies on clickbait and manipulative tactics to mask its true intentions while luring users into pressing the displayed 'Allow' button. This is the pivotal moment of the whole tactic. The page tries to create various false implications about what clicking the button will do instead of clearly stating that it will enable the page's push notification services.
One of the deceptive scenarios employed by Webpushpull.com revolves around creating the impression that users must pass a CAPTCHA check before they can access the supposed content on the site. Users will be presented with an image depicting a confused robot alongside a message similar to:
'Click 'Allow' if you are not a robot'
If the users press the button, they will likely find themselves on the receiving end of an annoying ad campaign. The advertisements could severely impact the user experience on the device, but, more importantly, they could promote or cause redirects to additional untrustworthy destinations. It is not uncommon for advertisements associated with such dubious sources to lead the users to various tactics, phishing pages, fake giveaways, shady adult platforms, etc. They also could try to trick users into downloading invasive PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) that could have adware or browser hijacker functionalities.
