Webfreshupdater.com is an untrustworthy website that utilizes misleading and clickbait messages to take advantage of its visitors. As is the case with most rogue websites, users are highly unlikely to decide to open the page intentionally. Instead, Webfreshupdater.com could be encountered as a result of forced redirects, either by visiting websites using rogue advertising networks or by having an intrusive PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) active on your device.
When infosec researchers analyzed the site, they were presented with a fake captcha text. The implication is that users must prove that they are not bots before they can access the content of the site. However, in reality, no such content exists. The shown messages' sole purpose is to convince visitors to click on the displayed 'Allow' button and unknowingly enable Webfreshupdater.com's push notifications. As part of its misleading scenario, the site shows several images and instructs visitors to 'Click Allow if you see a robot' if it appears among them.
Rogue websites abuse the browser permissions granted as part of the push notifications feature to deliver dubious and intrusive advertisements. The advertisements also could utilize deceptive messages, as a way to promote PUPs, phishing sites, adult pages, technical support frauds, etc.
