Vyia Ransomware

Cybercriminals have unleashed another destructive ransomware threat that is based on the STOP/Djvu Ransomware family. Tracked by cybersecurity experts as the Vyia Ransomware, the threat is capable of rendering a long list of filetypes completely unusable via encryption, with an uncrackable cryptographic algorithm. All victims will then be extorted for money if they want to restore access to their personal or work-related data.

What distinguishes this threat from the countless other variants from the STOP/Djvu Ransomware family is the file extension it uses to mark each encrypted file. Indeed, users will notice that nearly all of their files have had '.vyia' appended to their original names. The exact instructions of the attackers will be delivered to the victims as a text file named '_readme.txt.'

Ransom Note's Details

The ransom note reveals that the hackers demand to be paid a ransom of exactly $980. However, victims have a chance to reduce that price by 50% to $490. The only listed requirement is to have established communication with the hackers at any point during the first 72 hours following the attack. Users also are told that they can attach one locked file to be sent to the hackers. If the file doesn't contain any important data, it will supposedly be decrypted and sent back for free. The note mentions two email addresses that can be used as communication channels. The primary address is 'support@sysmail.ch' while 'helprestoremanager@airmail.cc' is designated as a reserve email.
