Vvew Ransomware

Cybersecurity researchers are warning about another threatening ransomware variant from the prolific STOP/Djvu family. The threat is being tracked as the Vvew Ransomware and its harmful capabilities allow it to encrypt numerous different file types. Affected victims will be prevented from accessing or using most of the files stored on the breached systems. Each encrypted file will have '.vvew' added to its name as a new extension. The threat also will drop a text file named '_readme.txt' to the victim's device.

Inside the file, victims will find a ransom note with the attacker's demands. The hackers state that they want to be paid a ransom of $980, but users who contact them within the first 72 hours will have to pay only half of that amount. In addition, the threat actors reveal that they are willing to decrypt one file for free. The chosen file can be attached to an email and sent to the two email addresses found in the note - 'support@bestyourmail.ch' and 'supportsys@airmail.cc.' Users should avoid any interaction with cybercriminals, if possible. Otherwise, they could inadvertently expose themselves to even more security or privacy risks.
