Vveo Ransomware

The Vveo Ransomware is a threat belonging to the STOP/Djvu malware family. Although, it is just another variant, Vveo's capacity to cause damage to the infected devices remains significant. Indeed, the affected devices will be subjected to data encryption that will leave most of the documents, PDFs, pictures, archived, databases, and other file types both completely inaccessible and unusable. Victims will notice that all encrypted files now have '.vveo' attached to their original names as a new extension.

Following the typical behavior observed in other STOP/Djvu variants, Vveo also drops its ransom note as a text file named '_readme.txt.' The message states that victims who wish to receive a decryption software tool and the necessary decryption keys from the attackers must pay a ransom of $980. However, if users contact the hackers within the first 72 hours, they will supposedly have to pay only half of that amount. In addition, a single encrypted file may be attached to the sent message to be decrypted for free.

Of course, trusting the words of cybercriminals may not be wise. The cybercriminals may take the extorted money and move on to their other threatening operations or fail to restore all of the files they have locked.
