Vomm Ransomware

The Vomm Ransomware is a malware threat, despite the fact that it is another variant belonging to the STOP/Djvu Ransomware family. Computers compromised by the threat will be subjected to data encryption, and victims will lose access to nearly all of their files stored on the device. Pictures, documents, PDFs, archives, databases, and many other files types will be encrypted with an uncrackable cryptographic algorithm.

Affected users also will notice that all locked files now have '.vomm' added to their original names as a new file extension. This is a typical STOP/Djvu behavior, just like dropping the threat's ransom note as a text file named '_readme.txt.'

Ransom Note's Overview

The instructions delivered in the note state that the attackers demand to be paid a ransom of $980. Upon receiving the money, the cybercriminals promise to provide their victims with a decryption tool, and the necessary decryption key that could restore the locked data. If victims initiate communication within 72 hours of the attack, they would need to only pay 50% of the initial ransom sum. Of course, trusting the words of ransomware operators is not recommended, and contacting them could expose users to additional security and privacy risks. The ransom note leaves two email addresses - 'restorealldata@firemail.cc' and 'gorentos@bitmessage.ch, and a Telegram account at '@datarestore' as potential communication channels.
