VLOPlayer presents itself as a legitimate media player that resembles the VLC player. However, for its distribution, it relies on a browser hijacker known as Search By VLO. This Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) is designed to promote a fake search engine called vlosearch.com.

To fulfill its goal, a typical browser hijacker changes crucial browser settings, like the homepage, default search engine, and new tab option, replacing them with the advertised URL - vlosearch.com in this case. Since vlosearch.com cannot generate search results, it redirects the searches to Bing, Google, Yahoo, or another reliable search machine, depending on the user location.

Fake search engines also show misleading results and promote potentially unsafe websites that can lead users to dubious resources on the Internet. Other than that, PUPs often collect sensitive user details. Thus, experts do not recommend using vlosearch.com or keeping any possibly unsafe application like a browser hijacker on your device.
