The View-Dark browser extension may appear to be a useful tool at first glance. After all, it is described as a convenient way to enable Dark Mode on certain websites that do not have such functionality on their own. Unfortunately, installing the application quickly reveals that another of its primary goals is to generate monetary gains for its operators through intrusive ad campaigns. Indeed, the View-Dark extension has been classified as adware.

Although adware applications may need specific conditions to fully activate their unwanted capabilities, users should still avoid keeping any PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) on their computers or devices. Typically, the adware will be responsible for delivering numerous, intrusive advertisements that may appear as pop-ups, banners, notifications, etc. More importantly, users should not interact with advertisements associated with unproven sources without exercising caution. Clicking on the shown advertisements may trigger redirects to untrustworthy destinations including unsafe websites, phishing portals, fake giveaways, etc. As for the advertisements themselves, they could be promoting similarly shady websites, additional PUPs and more.

An additional risk posed by adware, browser hijackers, and PUPs, in general, is that these applications are often equipped with data-tracking functions. While active on the system, they may be spying on users' browsing habits, by monitoring the visited websites, conducted searches and clicked URLs.

The best way to remove a potentially unwanted application is to uninstall it from the Apps and Features window. If there are any remaining unwanted components or malware infections on your computer, you can use recommended malware removal software to remove them.
