Vfgj Ransomware

The already extremely prolific STOP/Djvu Ransomware family continues to expand with cybercriminals unleashing more and more ransomware variants based on it. Despite the threat generally lacking any significant improvements over the base variant, their destructive capabilities still turn them into potent weapons. The goal of the hackers is to lock the files of their victims and then demand the payment of a ransom for the restoration of the data.

The Vfgj Ransomware doesn't deviate from the expected behavior of a STOP/Djvu threat. It encrypts a wide range of file types and renders them inaccessible. Each locked file has '.vfgj' appended to its original name. When no more suitable files are left on the compromised system, the malware will drop a ransom note instructing its victims on how to proceed. The message will be placed inside a newly-created file named '_readme.txt.'

Ransom Note's Details

Vfgj Ransomware's instructions state that all victims will need to pay the hackers a sum of $980. The amount of the ransom, however, can be reduced by 50% to $490, if the affected users reach out and initiate communication with the attackers in the first 72 hours of the attack. Victims also can test the ability of the cybercriminals to fully restore their data by sending a single encrypted file to be unlocked for free. All communication attempts should be directed towards the two emails mentioned in the note - 'manager@mailtemp.ch' and 'helpmanager@airmail.cc.'
