Users who find themselves encountering the Universal-current.com website should be careful. The page is designed to deliver fake and misleading messages in an attempt to take advantage of its visitors. Infosec researchers have observed the site running a 'Your PC is infected with viruses' scam as well as trying to obtain permissions to show push notifications.
As part of the scam, the page will display several pop-up windows. They mostly contain fake warnings and alarms about supposed malware threats that Universal-current.com was somehow able to detect on the user's computer system or device. It even pretends to be conducting a malware scan, something that is impossible for a website to do on its own.
The dubious page tries to create the impression that its false warnings are actually coming from the legitimate cybersecurity vendor Norton. Its ultimate goal is to convince visitors into buying a subscription for Norton thus enabling the scammers to earn illegitimate commissions from the purchase. It must be noted Universal-current.com is in no way connected to the actual publishers or developers of the security app.
In addition, the deceptive page could also try to trick users into subscribing to its push notifications. Afterward, Universal-current.com will abuse the browser permissions it received to deliver various shady and intrusive ads to users. The generated advertisements could utilize clickbait tactics to promote additional scam websites, phishing pages, adult-oriented websites, and other suspicious web destinations.
