Threat Database Adware UltraSearchApp

UltraSearchApp

UltraSeachApp's main targets are Mac users with most of them probably not realizing that UltraSearchApp has sneaked itself onto their computers. UltraSeachApp has been classified by infosec researchers as being part of the AdLoad family of adware applications.PUPs such as UltraSearchApp rely on deceptive marketing tactics for distribution predominantly, which are designed to hide the installation process of the application specifically.

Once established onto the user's Mac, UltraSearchApp will begin to monetize its presence almost immediately. The application combines the capabilities of adware with those of browser hijackers. In practice, this will result in an intrusive advertising campaign that will diminish the user experience on the device severely, while certain settings of the browser will be modified to open a promoted address.

The generated advertisements could lead to questionable or outright unsafe third-party websites through forced redirects. The promoted address, on the other hand, will be a fake search engine that cannot produce any search results on its own most likely. Instead, search queries initiated by the user will be redirected to a legitimate search engine, such as Yahoo, Bing and Google. Various third-party advertisements could be injected into the list of results.

At the same time, users may have their browsing activities tracked and then uploaded by the PUP. It is rather common for applications of this type to access the user's browsing and search histories, clicked URLs, geolocation, IP address and more. All harvested information and system details will be uploaded to a remote server.
