Ultra Browser Extension

Infosec researchers have identified a dubious browser extension going under the name 'Ultra.' Despite what it may claim, installing the application makes it obvious that its main focus is to generate unwanted advertisements and cause unauthorized browser redirects. As a result, the Ultra extension is classified as being adware.

The presence of adware on the users' devices typically leads to frequently appearing advertisements that could become major distractions and interrupt the normal activities carried out on the system. The advertisements may appear as pop-ups, unwanted redirects in the browser, system notifications, etc. More importantly, users risk being shown advertisements for dubious or even unsafe destinations or software products. Adware applications are often observed generating advertisements promoting technical support tactics, phishing schemes, platforms spreading PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs), shady adult pages and similarly untrustworthy sites.

However, the risks that these applications may bring do not end there. Many PUPs are equipped with data-harvesting capabilities. While present on the system, they may spy on the users' browsing activities, collect device details, or even access browsers' autofill data to obtain confidential information, such as account credentials, banking info, payment details, etc.
