Uihj Ransomware

The Uihj Ransomware may not be an entirely unique threat; in fact, it is classified as yet another variant from the STOP/Djvu malware family, but that doesn't make it any less threatening. Uihj targets a wide range of file types - documents, PDFs, databases, archives, images, audio, and video files, and encrypts them using a military-grade cryptographic algorithm. Unless a critical flaw in the execution of the encryption is discovered by cybersecurity experts, the files locked by the threat will be virtually impossible to restore without having the correct decryption keys.

Victims of the threat will notice that nearly all files stored on the breached device now carry '.uihj' as a new file extension. Another change made by the ransomware will be the appearance of a new text file named '_readme.txt.' The role of this file is to contain the attacker's ransom note.

Demands Overview

The Uihj Ransomware follows the pattern established by the countless previous STOP/Djvu variants. The operators of the threat are trying to extort the sum of $980 from their victims. That initial amount could potentially be cut down in half if the information in the threat's note can be believed. The only listed requirement is for the victims of Uihj Ransomware to message the hackers at any point during the first 72 hours of the attack.

Two email addresses are left as possible communication channels - 'restorealldata@firemail.cc' and 'gorentos@bitmessage.ch.' In addition, the hackers also mention a Telegram account at '@datarestore.'
