Threat Database Ransomware Uigd Ransomware

Uigd Ransomware

The Uigd Ransomware belongs to the still expanding STOP/Djvu malware family. Despite the countless ransomware variants already created by using STOP/Djvu as a basis, cybercriminals are continuing to make more threats. When the Uigd Ransomware is deployed on a targeted computer system, it will initiate an encryption process that will lock most of the documents, PDFs, archives, databases, and other file types stored there. The threat will append '.uigd' to the name of each encrypted file as a new extension. Finally, a text file carrying a ransom note with instructions for the victim will be delivered to the infected device. The name of this file is '_readme.txt.'

Ransom Note's Overview

The instructions of the Uigd Ransomware follow the established STOP/Djvu pattern. They state that victims of the threat will need to pay a ransom of $980 if they want to receive the software tool and decryption key needed to restore the locked data. According to the note, the attackers are willing to cut their demanded amount in half with the only condition being that victims contact them in the first 72 hours of the Uigd Ransomware attack.

The note leaves victims of the threat with two email addresses that they can use to reach the hackers. The main address is 'supportsys@airmail.cc,' while 'supportsys@airmail.cc' is designated to serve as a reserve email. Affected users are instructed that they can attach 1 encrypted file to their message. Afterward, the attackers would supposedly unlock the file and send it back for free as a demonstration of their ability to restore all affected files.
