Ufwj Ransomware

The Ufwj Ransomware is another potent variant spawned from the prolific and highly damaging STOP/Djvu malware family. Nearly all of the variants are virtually identical with the biggest difference being the exact extension they use to mark the encrypted files. However, in no way it makes them any less threatening. Systems infected by Ufwj Ransomware will be subjected to an encryption process that will leave almost all of the files stored there in an unusable state. The cybercriminals will then extort their victims for money, in exchange for the decryption key and tool in their possession.

The files encrypted by Ufwj Ransomware will have '.ufwj' appended to their original names. Upon completing its encryption routine, the threat will proceed to deliver a ransom note in the form of a text file named '_readme.txt.

Ufwj Ransomware's Demands

The note states that victims of the threat have to pay $980 to the hackers. Close to a thousand dollars is a sizeable sum that few individual victims can easily part with. The operators of Ufwj Ransomware seem to realize this and they offer to cur the price in half to $490. The only requirement is for the victims to establish contact within the first 72 hours of the ransomware infection.

The note contains two email addresses that can be used for communication - 'manager@mailtemp.ch' and 'helpmanager@airmail.cc.' Users can attach a single file to their email that will supposedly be decrypted and returned.
