Threat Database Ransomware Tuis Ransomware

Tuis Ransomware

By CagedTech in Ransomware

The Tuis malware threat is classified as ransomware. Threats of this type target the data of their victims and lock it using a strong cryptographic algorithm. In the vast majority of cases, the impacted files cannot be restored without the proper decryption keys that the cybercriminals possess. Victims will no longer be able to use the documents, archives, databases, images, PDFs, and many other file types stored on the breached devices.

It should be noted that the Tuis Ransomware is not an entirely original threat. It belongs to a malware strain known as STOP/Djvu that is quite popular among cybercriminals. The threats from this family operate in a practically identical way. They mark the locked files by appending a 4-character string to the original file names as a new extension. In this case, the added extension is '.tuis.' The malware also will create a text file named '_readme' on the infected device.

Opening the text file will reveal a ransom with instructions. According to the message, victims must pay a ransom of $980. After transferring the money, they will supposedly receive a decryption tool and the necessary decryption keys. Victims who contact the attackers within 72 hours of the Tuis Ransomware infection will apparently have to pay only 50% of the initial ransom amount. The note mentions two email addresses - 'support@fishmail.top' and 'datarestorehelp@airmail.cc,' that could be used for communication. However, users who decide to message cybercriminals should do so with extreme caution. Talking to hackers could lead to even more security and privacy risks.
