Threat Database Ransomware Tuid Ransomware

Tuid Ransomware

Cybercriminals are utilizing another variant based on the STOP/Djvu malware family as part of their threatening operations. The threat is being tracked as Tuid Ransomware and it has retained the destructive capacity associated with this ransomware family. When deployed on the targeted computers, Tuid will engage an encryption routine that will leave the vast majority of the victim's files in an unusable state.

Many users will first notice that something is wrong with their device when certain files and programs become unresponsive and no longer operational. Another sign is the unfamiliar '.tuid' extension that will be appended to the original names of all encrypted files. The threat also will generate a new text file on the device named '_readme.txt.' Inside the file will be a ransom note with instructions from the attackers.

Ransom Note's Details

Tuid Ransomware's message follows closely the pattern established by the other STOP/Djvu threats. It instructs victims that to receive assistance from the cybercriminals, they will need to pay a ransom of $980. The amount is not set in stone, though, and upon establishing contact within 72 hours of the ransomware infection, victims are promised to get preferential terms of having to pay 50% less.

The ransom note also mentions that as part of their communication with the hackers, victims can send a single locked file that will then be decrypted and returned for free. According to the threat's instructions, affected users and organizations should use the two emails provided to them - 'support@sysmail.ch' and 'supportsys@airmail.cc.' Keep in mind that entering into negotiations with cybercrminals is heavily discouraged as users could be exposing themselves to even more security and privacy risks.
