The Trustworthy Toolbar is a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that is installed as an add-on for your Web browser. Due to the fact that the Trustworthy Toolbar causes various symptoms that are more commonly seen in other types of infections, ESG security analysts strongly advise computer users to remove the Trustworthy Toolbar immediately from an affected computer. PUPs like the Trustworthy Toolbar are commonly categorized as browser hijackers. This means that these are programs designed to take over a computer user's Web browser in order to cause it to display advertisements or redirect the computer user's online activities. The Trustworthy Toolbar is commonly bundled with freeware applications and, once installed, may make unauthorized changes to your Web browser's settings. The Trustworthy Toolbar changes the affected Web browser's default search engine and home page to the infamous Conduit search engine, a low quality search engine that has been associated with these types of scams numerous times before.
There are several reasons why the search engine associated with the Trustworthy Toolbar is not something that you may actually trust. The Trustworthy Toolbar's supposed search results are little more than advertisements and sponsored affiliate marketing links, and this search engine keeps track of your online activity and searches. This information is then used to deliver advertisements to computer user's Web browsers. The main purpose of the Trustworthy Toolbar is to generate Web traffic to certain websites and search engines in order to increase advertisement impressions and potential affiliate marketing links.
Although not Malicious, the Trustworthy Toolbar's Behavior is Suspicious
It is important to note that the Trustworthy Toolbar is not malicious enough to be known as a virus or Trojan. Rather, the Trustworthy Toolbar is a browser add-on that exhibits certain suspicious behaviors. Many software developers bundle these types of components along with freeware programs as a way to generate revenue from free software. However, in most cases these are not worth the trouble due to the general availability of free alternatives that are not bundled with PUPs but that use other monetization methods.
