EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecard
EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards are assessment reports for different malware threats which have been collected and analyzed by our research team. EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards evaluate and rank threats using several metrics including real-world and potential risk factors, trends, frequency, prevalence, and persistence. EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards are updated regularly based on our research data and metrics and are useful for a wide range of computer users, from end users seeking solutions to remove malware from their systems to security experts analyzing threats.
EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards display a variety of useful information, including:
Ranking: The ranking of a particular threat in EnigmaSoft’s Threat Database.
Severity Level: The determined severity level of an object, represented numerically, based on our risk modeling process and research, as explained in our Threat Assessment Criteria.

TopMoviesLinks, also known as the TopMoviesLinks Default Search, is an intrusive browser extension that cybersecurity experts have classified as being a browser hijacker. In practice, this means that the application is equipped with invasive functionalities that allow it to take over important browser settings and modify them according to its programming. Users typically install such browser hijackers unknowingly, after being tricked by dubious websites or not checking the full list of applications set to be installed as part of a software bundle.
The main purpose of a browser hijacker is to promote a dubious website that would otherwise see almost non-existent traffic. TopMoviesLinks is not an exception. It is designed to promote the topmovieslinks.com fake search engine. To achieve its goal, the PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) will set topmovieslinks.com as the browser's new homepage, new tab page, and default search engine. Usually, while the browser hijacker is still installed on the system, it will overwrite any attempts by users to get the affected settings back to normal.
As for the promoted address, topmovieslinks.com is considered a fake engine because it lacks the functionality to generate results on its own. The user's search queries will be redirected to other sources. For example, researchers have observed the page redirecting to the legitimate Bing search engine. However, this may not always be the case, as some PUPs and fake search engines are able to modify their behavior based on various factors, such as the device's IP address, geolocation, browser type and potentially more.
Users who let PUPs stay on their computers or devices risk having their browsing activities tracked and then transmitted to a remote server. The application's operators could gain access to the entire browsing and search histories and numerous device details. Some PUPs are even capable of extracting data that has been saved into the user's browsers. This sensitive information may include banking and payment details, as well as credit’/debit card numbers.
