TopConverterSearch is an intrusive application, equipped with browser hijacker capabilities. Exactly like most browser hijackers, TopConverterSearch's main purpose also is to promote a dubious search engine. Indeed, affected users will notice that their Web browser has suddenly started to redirect to topconvertersearch.com. The page will be set as the browser's new homepage, new tab page and default search engine. While TopConverterSearch is installed on the system, it will prevent users from making further changes to these browser settings.
The promoted search engine lack the ability to produce results on its own, resulting in its classification as a fake search engine. Users will be shown results taken from other sources, depending on certain parameters, such as the IP address and geolocation of the device. As such, topconvertersearch.com could show results from the legitimate Yahoo engine or dubious ones, such as nearbyme.io.
While present on the device, PUPs such as TopConverterSearch also could spy on the user's browsing activities. These annoying applications could continuously transmit information and device details to their operators. The acquired data could then be packaged and sold to any interested third parties.
