Few online marketing techniques are as annoying as in-text links that display a new window when you roll over them with your mouse. These kinds of advertisements, often known as Text Enhance Ads\Pop-Ups, can appear in certain websites when enabled. However, the ones that interest malware researchers are the ones that are inserted into all text by a program residing on the victim's own computer. Most of the time, this program is installed without the computer user's explicit authorization. While it does not seem that Text Enhance Ads\Pop-Ups are installed through malicious methods, they will frequently be installed as a component of the installation process of a freeware application. Through careless clicking and because of most computer users' propensity to rush through the installation process, Text Enhance Ads\Pop-Ups and other unwanted 'features' may be installed along with the freeware application. Some aspects of Text Enhance Ads\Pop-Ups that worry PC security researchers include some of the ways that they prevent the computer user from uninstalling them and the fact that their installation will often require making potentially dangerous changes to the victim's Windows Registry, HOSTS file, system settings and browser security settings.
Text Enhance Ads\Pop-Ups are often extremely annoying, as rolling over them can cause your web browser to display an intrusive Window that can hinder your normal browsing, or quickly fill up your screen with pop-up advertisements. Basically, the program that causes Text Enhance Ads\Pop-Ups will highlight certain words in normal website content and turn them into links to advertisements. This is a perfectly legal advertising technique. However, it often goes against the computer user's wishes. One of the main problems with Text Enhance Ads\Pop-Ups is that it may not be particularly easy to uninstall.
The main mistake many computer users make when trying to uninstall Text Enhance Ads\Pop-Ups is thinking that these advertisements are confined to a specific web browser. Rather, these are caused by an application installed on the affected computer. This application makes changes to how the affected computer connects to the Internet, affecting all web browsers installed on that computer. Because of this, to remove Text Enhance Ads\Pop-Ups it is necessary to remove the freeware program responsible for installing Text Enhance Ads\Pop-Ups in the first place. Then, a reliable anti-malware application can be used to detect any remains of software responsible for Text Enhance Ads\Pop-Ups or to revert any changes made to the affected computer's settings.
