TenBrowser

TenBrowser is an intrusive application classified as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program). It carries its own Web browser, which was created by using the open-source Chromium project that is mainly developed and supported by Google. This customized browser is designed to be visually similar to the default Google Chrome, so many users may not even realize that they are not using their normal browser. After all, after being installed on the system, TenBrowser will set itself as the default browser and the default application for opening any .html, .htm, .shtml, .webp, .xhtml and .xht documents.

The goal of TenBrowser's operators is to trick users into unknowingly using the delivered browser, which comes with its specifically chosen startup page and search engine. This way, the operators of the PUP could generate artificial traffic toward a sponsored page by redirecting users to it whenever they open the browser or initiate a Web search. In addition, TenBrowser could display adware characteristics by generating unwanted advertisements. The unsuspecting users could see advertisements for more PUPs presented as seemingly legitimate applications or encounter advertisements for untrustworthy websites running online tactics, phishing schemes, dubious platforms for gaming/betting and more.

Another common issue related to PUPs is that many of these applications have data-tracking capabilities. They often monitor users' browsing activities and collect information from their browsing history, search history, clicked URLs and more. Users should keep in mind that some PUPs can even extract sensitive data from browsers' autofill data. In this way, users may have their account credentials, payment details, banking info and other important information compromised.
