Threat Database Adware TabMemoryOptimizer

TabMemoryOptimizer

TabMemoryOptimizer attempts to lure users in by describing its functionality as a convenient way to boost the performance of their Web browser by suspending opened tabs from running. In practice, however, this browser extension asks for several browser permissions that it then immediately begins to abuse to run an intrusive advertising campaign on the device.

Rogue and deceptive apps that are designed to generate monetary gains for their operators through such tactics are classified as adware. At the same time, the misleading techniques employed in their distribution classifies them as PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs).

TabMemoryOptimizer asks to be allowed to read and change the user's data on the visited websites as well as read and modify the browsing history. It needs these permissions to start injecting third-party ads into the visited pages. The PUP is capable of delivering pop-ups, banners, in-text links, and other intrusive ads. The generated materials could redirect the user to suspicious websites that might be running online scams, phishing schemes, or other shady activities.

Another red flag about keeping TabMemoryOptimizer on your system is its ability to track and collect data. The acquired information could include both the browsing and the search histories, IP address, and even personally identifiable details.
