SystemSoapPro is a program to avoid. While SystemSoapPro is not technically spyware or adware, SystemSoapPro is a scam. At best, SystemSoapPro is an application of dubious quality and usefulness, because SystemSoapPro does things that any moderately knowledgeable PC user will be able to do by himself/herself. However, the negatives far outweigh any benefit that SystemSoapPro may offer. SystemSoapPro has a history of association with adware and drive-by downloads, as well as questionable billing practices and a lack of publicly available business information.

The SystemSoapPro Website, and What the Software is Supposed to Do

SystemSoapPro is promoted on the website systemsoap.com. According to the site, SystemSoapPro does things like erase your Internet history, the list of recently-accessed documents in the Windows Start menu, the list of recent entries in the “Run” command, etc., with the ability to schedule tasks. SystemSoapPro can't be installed without a credit card, and SystemSoapPro comes with a free “trial” period of three days. When the trial period is expired, your credit card will be charged $79.99 for one year of SystemSoapPro service. It might be easy to overlook, so it's worth pointing out that that $79.99 is for one year of "service" – once one year has passed, you will be charged another $79.99 for the next year. It's more of a subscription fee than a license fee. Most people who decide to let the initial charge go, without disputing it, are shocked to find that they are charged again after a year. Often, there is no way to make the annual charges stop except to dispute them through the credit card company for the card being charged, or to cancel the card altogether. For all of this trouble, the most anyone can get out of SystemSoapPro is a program that does things that anyone could do on their own, and which does not offer updates, improvements in quality, or any kind of real-time monitoring or protection.

The SystemSoapPro website does not give an address or even a real business name for the company behind the software. Furthermore, the site is protected by several layers of private web hosting services, so that it is impossible to determine who the real registrant of the web site is, or where that person or company is located. All Traceroute attempts (to track the site to its real origin) fail completely, indicating some very heavy-duty protection of the site's data. Nevertheless, what was noticed, is that the IP address for the SystemSoapPro website belongs to a private hosting service in the US that has a recorded history of association with malware and spyware via exploit servers.

SystemSoapPro and Internet Washer

SystemSoapPro is a clone of another program called Internet Washer, which has several sites of its own that contain exactly the same description and claims to be the SystemSoapPro site. Internet Washer is older, and it goes back to at least 2003, when there were cases of the program installing itself to computers using drive-by downloads, and installing adware along with the main Internet Washer software. Internet Washer has the same annual pricing scheme and lack of available business information as SystemSoapPro.

After Internet Washer was widely identified as suspicious software, SystemSoapPro appeared on the web, possibly as early as 2004. (There were reports of charges for a second year of service for SystemSoapPro in 2005.) The SystemSoapPro scam spread during 2005, and SystemSoapPro was especially common on Japanese computers. Since 2005, SystemSoapPro has had a few periods of increased activity, which raises the suspicion that SystemSoapPro is being downloaded or installed in ways that are malicious, shady, or fraudulent.

Paydirt: the Real Contact Information for the People Behind SystemSoapPro
