SuperVideoSearch

SuperVideoSearch is a dubious application that acts as a browser hijacker promoting a fake search engine. The application doesn't wait for users to download and install it intentionally, as the likelihood of that happening is extremely low. Instead, SuperVideoSearch is spread via deceptive distribution tactics, such as bundling or hiding inside fake installers/updaters for more popular software products. This underhanded behavior classifies SuperVideoSearch as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program).

Browser hijackers aim to sneak themselves onto the user's computer or device and then take control over the Web browser. More specifically, they go after certain settings such as the homepage, new tab page, and the default search engine. In SuperVideoSearch's case, it modifies these settings to open the address of the 'supervideosearch.com' fake engine. Fake search engines are incapable of producing any result on their own.

Any search query initiated by the user will instead be redirected. SuperVideoSearch has been observed to take the search queries to either the legitimate search.yahoo.com engine or to searchlee.com. The latter is a dubious search engine that delivers search results but the list may include numerous sponsored links/ads that may not even match the search criteria.

Browser hijackers and PUPs also are known for spying on the user's browsing activities. Various information including the browsing history, search history, clicked URLs, and device details such as the IP address, geolocation, and ISP could be collected and uploaded to a remote server. The operators of the PUP could then try to exploit the acquired data themselves or offer it for sale to interested parties that could very well include cybercriminals. The decrease in performance might be caused by improperly discarded cache files.
