StreamUltraSearch is a browser hijacker application. In addition, it also is being classified as a PUP Potentially Unwanted Program) due to the questionable methods involved in its distribution. Users that have allowed the application to be installed on their computers will soon notice that their Web browsers have started to open an unfamiliar, new address.
Indeed, this is the main functionality of most browser hijackers. These intrusive applications are designed specifically to take over the user's browser and force it to redirect to a sponsored address. In this case, the application is promoting its own page at streamultrasearch.com. The site will be set as the browser's homepage, new tab page and default search engine.
However, relying on streamultrasearch.com for your search queries may not be the best decision. The engine is considered a fake one, as it cannot produce results on its own. Infosec researchers have observed that it behaves in one of two ways. First, some users may be shown results taken from the legitimate Yahoo browser. However, others could instead be presented with results generated by the dubious nearbyme.io engine. These results could include various unrelated sponsored advertisements or be promoting dubious and unreliable websites.
PUPs and browser hijackers also may collect information from the device they are installed on. The intrusive applications could spy on the user's browsing activities, harvest device details, or even attempt to access autofill data that has been saved in the affected browsers.
