StreamBee

Malware researchers classify tools like StreamBee as browser hijackers, which in turn, fall into the category of the Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs). A common feature of PUPs is that they usually install on target computers without the user's knowledge. That happens when unsuspecting users click on a compromised advertisement on the Internet or download and install freeware/cracked software copies from untrusty third-party pages.

As a browser hijacker, StreamBee has been designed to push the fake search engine keysearchs.com. To fulfill its purpose, StreamBee alters the affected browser's settings, replacing the default search engine, the homepage, and the new tab URL with the address of the promoted fake search engine. In some cases, this PUP does not change any browser settings but opens the keysearchs.com page whenever the user enters a search query into the URL bar.

Since keysearchs.com cannot generate unique results, it runs the searches through some legit search engines, like Bing or Google. At the same time, user queries are redirected through a couple of other questionable websites. StreamBee also can read browser-related information, like IP addresses, search terms, visited pages, and even sensitive login data. Such features can create serious privacy issues, so this PUP should be removed as soon as possible.
