Threat Database Ransomware SPC Ransomware

SPC Ransomware

SPC is a malware threat that falls into the ransomware category. Ransomware is designed to take the victim's files - PDFs, documents, photos, music, archives, databases, etc., as hostages and then extort the target for money specifically. The scheme involves encrypting the targeted file types with an uncrackable cryptographic algorithm, thus rendering them inaccessible and unusable. To get their data back, users need a specific decryption key that only the hackers possess.

SPC Ransomware's Characteristics

Upon encrypting a file, the SPC Ransomware will mark it by appending a new extension to the file's original name. The extension used by the threat is '.spc.' When the encryption process is completed, SPC drops a ransom note for its victim in the form of a text file named 'Contact Me.txt.'

Opening the file containing the message reveals that the hackers were not willing to disclose much as the ransom note is extremely short and lacks much of the information typically provided by other ransomware threats. The SPC Ransomware simply tells its victims to contact the hackers by messaging the 'Kelly.lb@protonmail.com' email address. The only other details delivered by the ransom note are the victim's ID number and a warning not to remove the ransom note's file.

The entire text of SPC Ransomware's note is:

'Contact Me on Kelly.lb@protonmail.com
Your id : -
Don't remove this file.'
