What is Softwarean.net?
Before we explain Softwarean.net any further, some clarification might be necessary. Softwarean.net is both the name of a malicious website, and the name of the hijacker malware that causes your computer to keep redirecting you there. Online help resources will often refer to the hijacker as Softwarean.net, which can be quite confusing if you don't realize that the name can refer to two different things. Furthermore, you do not need to have the hijacker present on your computer in order to view the site. Although it is possible to navigate to the site voluntarily, doing so is risky, and you should avoid visiting Softwarean.net if you can. The rogue anti-virus program AntiVira Av may redirect your browser to Softwarean.net, but in that case, it will be obvious that the rogue program is present on your computer, not the hijacker.
The Softwarean.net hijacker gets in by using a Trojan, hidden in some ordinary-sounding thing that you download, like a program update or a video codec, and then it changes your Internet settings. No matter what website you try to visit, you will wind up at Softwarean.net, which shamelessly promotes the malware scam that Softwarean.net supports. The Softwarean.net hijacker may also cause a bunch of unrelated or even offensive pop-ups to appear.
Softwarean.net, as a website, is one of the payment sites for the AntiVira Av scam. Softwarean.net is meant to look like the website for some real anti-virus company, and Softwarean.net even uses the shield logo from Microsoft Malware Protection Center. However, a closer look reveals that Softwarean.net is identical in every detail to AntiVira Av's other sites, Shopllbo.com, Antivirko.com, Twofsoft.net, and Shoprdig.com. It seems to be the case that as AntiVira Av spreads and affects more and more computers, more payment sites are springing up to support it. Softwarean.net can take your credit card payment for AntiVira Av, but that's all Softwarean.net can do. Softwarean.net can't sell you a license or any useful functionality in AntiVira Av, because AntiVira Av is nothing more than a Russian scam.
