SimpleProjectSearch

SimpleProjectSearch is classified as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that is being leveraged against Mac users predominantly. The goal of the application is to infiltrate the user's Mac computer, establish control over the Web browser, and then start generating monetary gains for its creators by displaying unwanted advertising materials.

Most PUPs pretend to offer some useful functionality to bait users into downloading and installing them. While this tactic may work from time to time, in the vast majority of cases users do not even realize that a PUP is being installed on their system. Indeed, PUPs rely on deceptive techniques designed to hide their installation process from the attention of the user. The most popular ones are 'bundling' and being injected into fake software installers or updaters.

SimpleProjectSearch could manifest its presence in the form of various advertising materials that are being shown without any consent from the users. The advertisements could lead to severely diminished experience on the affected device and can be presented as pop-ups, banners, surveys, coupons, in-text hyperlinks and more. Users should exercise caution when engaging with the displayed advertisements, as they could be taken to unsafe third-party websites.

SimpleProjectSearch, as almost all PUPs, also may be equipped with data-tracking capabilities. The browsing activities of the user may be logged and then uploaded to remote servers. Among the usually collected data are any visited websites, all conducted searchers, clicked URLs, etc. Certain system details also may be included such as the system's IP address, Internet Service Provider (ISP), geolocation and more.

While PUPs may not be considered threats, the red flags associated with their presence on a computer or device shouldn't be underestimated.
