Shopping Chip

By GoldSparrow in Potentially Unwanted Programs

Shopping Chip is a web browser plugin, which displays coupon and discount advertisements when PC users visit online shopping websites such as Walmart, Amazon, Ebay, and others. Shopping Chip can be installed on Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. At first glance, functionality of Shopping Chip may look genuine and trustworthy; however, many computer users consider Shopping Chip to be a security infection. Shopping Chip may install itself on the affected web user's PC together with freeware and shareware programs downloaded from the net. Typically, Shopping Chip is installed without the PC user's authorization. Unreliable freeware and shareware download websites may use download clients (small applications which control the download process of some free programs) to benefit from incoming web traffic. Download clients may also offer installation of some advertised free browser plug-ins, most commonly adware, together with the selected freeware and shareware applications. Shopping Chip may keep track of the PC user's web browsing activities, which may lead to serious privacy issues.
