Users who land on the Series-protection.com website are like to be subjected to various online tricks. The page also may try to lure them into unknowingly enabling its push notifications. Like most rogue websites, Series-protection.com also may be able to modify the deceptive content it shows, based on the IP address and geolocation of each user. Still, when examined by infosec researchers, the site was observed displaying a variant of the 'You’ve visited illegal infected website' scam.
This particular online tactic consists of several pop-ups with various security alerts and warnings. The fabricated messages are presented as if coming from a reputable source, in this case, the McAfee company. Users also may see a threat scan that has supposedly managed to identify several malware threats on their devices. This scan also is entirely fake, as no website possesses such functionality on its own.
The goal of the fraudsters is to convince users to purchase a subscription for a legitimate security product by using these fake scares. It must be noted that the McAfee company is in no way connected to this page, and its product is simply used as a way for con artists to earn commission fees from affiliate programs.
