SectionIndexer

SectioIndexer is an adware program with browser hijacker capabilities that target Mac users. SectioIndexer also is yet another PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) designed to promote the Safe Finder fake search engine.

After tricking the users into giving it the required permission, SectionIndexer will modify their Web browser settings. The homepage, new page tab, and the default search engine will all be changed to redirect to Safe Finder in an attempt to promote it. However, Safe Finder is unable to conduct the functions of a legitimate search engine, and, instead, relies on search.yahoo.com to deliver search results. That is why cybersecurity experts regard Safe Finder and all the similar schemes to be fake search engines.

In addition, SectionIndexer could generate unwanted banners, coupons, pop-up windows and other annoying advertisements. Users are advised against clicking on any of the advertisements generated by such adware programs, as they may lead to compromised third-party websites, increasing the risks of more threatening pieces of malware targeting their Mac device.
