Search.searchdirma.com is a hoax search engine that is being promoted through the use of a browser hijacker application. The main targets are Mac users who may not pay enough attention and become victims to the deceptive distribution methods of the browser hijackers. Indeed, programs of this type are spread through misleading tactics such as bundling or fake software installers/updaters predominantly. That is why they also are classified as (PUPs) Potentially Unwanted Programs.
Once the browser hijacker is fully established onto the user's Mac system, it will initiate its functionality to establish control over the Web browser. More specifically, the PUP will set the homepage, new page tab, and the default search engine to open the search.searchdirma.com address. Typically, dubious search engines like this one are incapable of generating any meaningful search results and instead take the user's search query and run it through a legitimate engine such as Yahoo, Bing or Chrome.
The biggest red flag associated with having PUPs present on your system is that these apps could be tracking your browsing activities as well as certain device details. Information such as the visited websites, clicked URLs, conducted searchers, IP address, geolocation, and more could be collected and uploaded to a remote server.
