Search.platformkey.com is a dubious Web address, that is being associated with the presence of a browser hijacker on the user's computer. Redirects to this unfamiliar address would occur both while initiating a search via the affected browser's URL tab or even when using your favorite search engine. It should be noted that, for a while, users may not notice this intrusive behavior, as there are no obvious signs of modifications to the browser.
Still, the fact that the redirects to search.platformkey.com are occurring, is a clear indication that a PUP has managed to infiltrate the user's device. These intruder applications are heavily reliant on questionable distribution tactics to avoid attracting the user's attention. Indeed, PUPs are often hidden under the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' settings of a dubious software bundle and are selected to be installed. Another popular method is using fake installers that pretend to be for another, legitimate program.
To be on the safe side, users should never let PUPs stay on their computers for long. These applications are known for spying on the browsing activities carried out via the affected browsers. Furthermore, they might be equipped with data-harvesting routines that will collect various device details or even autofill information that has been saved in the browser. The collected data may include sensitive banking or payment details.
